not a computer guru? don't worry! that doesn't mean that you can stop viruses. simple precautions can help you avoid the possibility of getting viruses over the internet or from other computers.
here is the first most basic tip that i have learned over the years...
make sure you have an anti-virus program. i personally recommend AVG. The FREE edition is GOOD (just download the updates regularly). You may download the program here: FREE AVG . It detects a lot of different types of viruses.
Additional Tip! USB and removable disks are prone to virus infections from other computers. So ALWAYS scan your removable disk. When the window pops up asking you what you want to do, select take no action. Go to My computer. Right click on the USB/Removable drive, then run the virus scan!
Tada! You have just avoided a possible virus infection.

back up your files!
There are just some unforeseen events that are very hard to avoid... like a virus destroying all of your files! I hate it when that happens. You have to get your computer reformatted and start from scratch all over again. So what should you do? BACK UP ALL YOUR IMPORTANT FILES. Yes Back up! Create multiply copies! Now there are even websites where you can upload your files and be able to access them anywhere. Pretty cool huh? well one of these sites is the one by Elephant Drive. You can find the link on the right side below the firefox button. =)

If not, try searching on google or yahoo for - back up files online - or something similar to that. =)

well there are a couple of internet browsers that you can use.
my brother advised me to switch to mozilla firefox since it's faster and they say that it has better protection against viruses. soooo i switched. so far so good! it is faster and i haven't run into any major virus problems.
so you can give it a shot. try it out, and if it works for you then great! =)
